   Great conversation.
   I understand why, but you goys went a bit easy on the Reb.
   That Nazi DNA bit is precious.
   “Golly how else can we explain that Jews would be tenacious; we line up two by two and pack in shoulder to shoulder naked in gas chambers to our doom.” So even the Germans are to blame for Israeli war crimes. Sounds like virulent Anti-Teutonism. Sounds like magic talk.

   The more logical explanation is Jews were already involved in terror. And the history of each country since the war seems to confirm this. Germans a bunch of ethnic pussies and the Israelis ethnic chauvinists.
   Aggressive ethnic chauvinists.

   Best thing this conversation showed me is that even the most enlightened Jew is still not ‘us’. This was not your intent, but accepting Jews as political equals or as co-nationals is doomed if we are still talking within their parameters. And if you are talking with a Jew they are setting the parameters with every clause.

      Not sure about this exactly. If anything, there seems to be a fair bit of philo-Teutonism going on. But it’s complicated, like the Japanese relationship to American power. Admiring of strength and orderliness, fear and distrust of them as rivals. I think it’s better to say that provided their level of distinction remains what it is, integration will be difficult if not possible. Frankly, I think most if pressed non-threateningly on the issue would agree. But in all cases, people protect their customs, when you let people live amongst you you will establish custom there, and to rectify it you may have to uproot those customs, a process which those subject to uprooting will naturally and instinctively resist. A basic reading of the OT itself shows a few instances where the Israelites acted in ignorance of this reality and paid the price (Jebusites for example.)

      In any case, we let him speak. I didn’t correct him, but Rabbis should be careful about being pro-Jesus. Some will deceive you on this matter, but Christ was executed because he claimed divinity. He also taught that we need to eat his body and blood. There are a number of other teachings which do not jive with the “moral Jesus” of those who divide the scriptures into “different gods” or “different religions”. The Gospels, though our text arranges them first, are later documents in the era, and if you’re going from a purely textual standpoint without knowledge of ‘q’ (the collection of Jesus sayings that is alleged as a source for common sayings but has never been discovered.)

         I don;t dislike Jews. This is the problem sometimes.

         I think the answer will be, if we are able to live more peaceably, understanding when we are in a shared cultural space and when we are with our own. This implies we have a space of our own. That space must be social political moral spiritual and economic to be a full cultural space.

         I did a bit of looking into q a number of years ago. I am not longer offended by the hypotheses.
