Nice balanced view. Could it be part of priming us for a Trumpian “80s redux“?
I can’t believe Pokemon Go is even a thing. I’ve seen grown men (educated professionals, husbands, fathers) discussing this ‘game’. I’m starting to feel ashamed about living around these dumbfucks in the same fucking country.
Any grown man playing this that is not doing so with his young child in tow is not a grown man.
A man in my church, a long-haul truck driver, told us about another driver who was killed when the truck hauling chemicals that he was driving was hit head on by a car that strayed into his lane and burst into flames. The auto driver was killed too.
The kicker? The auto driver was a 21 year old male who was playing Pokemon Go while he was driving.
One thing, apparently there actually isn’t very much data usage. You also don’t have to always have the camera on to catch them. Still good to be paranoid.
Grown adults chasing after imaginary monsters, while the real monsters among us go unmolested.
Ain’t that Weimerica.
Amen. I was openly mocking this bullshit at work, when I realized that many of my co-workers were either playing it, or were interested in it. I shouldn’t be surprised. Many of them also play video games or fantasy sports.
[Fished from spam. Sorry for delay. –Ed.]
What hasn’t been brought up, and what I think is notable, is that some of these white, doughy, disconnected nerds are going out to catch pokemon and slowly zombie-walking into the ghetto. Multiple people have been robbed, or even killed. Even in the big city, it can be easy to disconnect yourself from the reality of these places. Zoom by with your car, stick to the main roads, laugh it off, make excuses. With or without a direct threat of harm, it puts another crack in the false visage, makes the truth just a bit harder to avoid.
Does not seem like a game that is safe to play outside of Eastern Europe or East Asia.
The market for it in Europe is certainly a lot smaller than when the idea was initially conceived, that’s for certain.
Good show, but you have some audio hissing during the first minute from breathing directly into the mic. You should invest ten bucks in a pop filter, or you can easily make one yourself from a wire hanger and pantyhose.
I listened to the show a little while back, so I can’t remember if this was covered in the audio….but the kid who sits next to me plays the game quite diligently. Recently, he said it is now taking too long for him to level up so he’s written/modified a script to play the game for him. He’s nearly got all the Pokemon in the world, just missing a few before he’s caught them all.
I asked him what he would do when the computer beats the game for him….I got mostly blank stares, and something about waiting for the next batch of Pokemon to be released. I don’t think he quite understood the metaphysical subtext.
