Thanks, Ryan. I enjoy your podcast. Tom Woods and Michael Malice have had an on-going debate about the legacies of Hamilton and Jefferson, with Woods arguing the case for Jefferson’s and Malice arguing the case for Hamilton. I am of the view that there is a statist/consolidation thread that runs from Hamilton to Henry Clay to Lincoln, and that this was a large part of the undoing of the voluntary union, as intended. Of course, the wisest minds of the time, Patrick Henry and later John C. Calhoun, predicted exactly what would happen.
I find most musicals intolerable, so I probably wouldn’t have seen this, even if it were not a progressive farce. But I now know to definitely avoid it. Thanks.
P.S. – What is a swipl?
SWPL – Stuff White People Like – satirical site that mocked the urban educated and very progressive white class
Thanks. I have a hard time keeping up with that stuff. It was just a few months ago that I learned the definition of an SJW. I used to just throw all of the SWPLs, SJWs, managerial-class-types, etc. into the catch-all category of PILAM – People I Loathe And Mock.
Spot on this week Ryan I enjoyed it. Your closing comments about South Africa was haunting. I can’t count how many times in my own mind the thought of a SA like devolution seems likely should the demographics shift in that direction. I don’t see how that is avoidable for us here in the US to be honest. Also, regarding the non-whites taking up space, my wife made that exact comment at our daughters public school (back to school night) in Sept. Half the school population is non-white but only a few of those parents showed up for the event. My wife turned to me and said these ‘other’ kids just take up space, they don’t contribute anything, no money, no time, no investment in their kids other then their offsprings constant disruption in the classroom. It was funny hearing you make the same statement, glad we are not the only ones noticing this kind of thing.
I can’t wait to listen to this later. My SWPL sister is in love with “Hamilton.” I read a holiness signalling article yesterday criticizing it from the left, because its use of minorities in the cast downplays the white menace of America’s founding (or something along those lines.)
The “Hamilton as a Minstrel Show” meme is so great it makes me want to make a fake SWPL account on Twitter just to spread it.
