Agree. If you read the various comments Corvinus has left here you find he is a committed anti-reactionary who thinks anything resembling a ‘dark enlightenment’ must be stopped. He is a big fan of liberal democracy and the Enlightenment.

I’m all for tweaking terminology until you hit on something that you think works.

Personally, I like pathological altruism. Not as a descriptor of the Left per se (which is, like you said, actively hostile in many instances rather than simply hapless) but as a descriptor of a psychological tendency in Europeans and white Americans. I think it applies to those of us on the Right just as much as the Left.

The term I have used in social settings to describe the concept has been, “aggressive altruism.” The term, “pathological” makes it too psychological, and Moldbug’s “callous” is clinical and paints the left as more careless than criminal. To use the word aggressive, though, brings to mind the ol’ libertarian standard of non-aggression and paints the left as being the dominator, so that in time, according to their conviction of being the underdog, they will naturally shy away from such activities. Its a bit of linguistic manipulation, but it has seemed to work.

Funny that you should mention that. They interviewed the wife of the Chapel Hill shooter, and she was adamant that her husband wasn’t bigoted against Muslims. As if that was some sort of mark in his favor. As if killing someone as part of a larger ethnic conflict is somehow worse than killing them over a parking spot dispute.

Of course the fact of the matter is that the opposite is true. Oh well.

Pathological altruism is an important concept, I think. Something we need to keep in mind. I’ve been kicking around an article called “Niceness is a Suicide Pact.” Maybe I’ll try to get it out next week.

This is a great article, and an admirable command of language – I hope I might be this good one day too.

This demonstrates the effectiveness of this guilt technique on the pathological altruists. Heaven forbid what the out group might think of us if we are seen to be anything less than perfectly accommodating of their every wish and desire.

You know… fuck them, fuck the out group, and shove your guilt tripping game up your arse, Obama.
