Successful? Yeah, he got to the top of the heap. He’s not successful when it comes to making Russia a less awful place to live.

Russia has a corruption problem that makes Washington D.C. look good. And it’s not getting better. Even though one would think that an autocrat with an obedient intelligence agency could create such an atmosphere of uncertainty among the corrupt in society that they’d not dare to ask for one more baksheesh.

Why else would he blow up a couple of housing blocks filled with his sleeping compatriots in order to get a casus belli?

America’s a democracy; Russia’s a darwinocracy. Getting to the top in Russia is a survival contest, not a popularity contest. American leaders could not fathom the evil of their Soviet counterparts (they give their people free housing and health care!), while the Soviets could not believe the naivete of the Americans (it must be a trick to attack Russia!)

That’s all in the past now. Putin sleeps soundly knowing that millions of Obama Phone Ladies will never elect a president that he needs to worry about.

I read one of these “Putin is Aspergers” articles and it seemed like trolling. Fact is, many generally “male” behaviors are now being classified as mental disorders, hence the showering of teenagers with “ADD” drugs, the over-diagnosis of “autism.” so-on.

Well the think-tank flunkies know precisely what their Overlords want, so they give it to them. Sensible think-tankers are no doubt billing (huh, almost wrote “bilking”) the gubmint for all kinds of anti-Putin “studies.” Just like adding “global warming” to anything increases the chance of funding by orders of magnitude, anything anti-Russia / anti-Putin will draw forth magical dollars from Those Who Want to Loot Russia All Over Again.

Some bright young thing really ought to come up with “The impact of Russian policy and Vladimir Putin on Global Warming and the life cycle of Polar Bears” and watch ten million grant dollars fall into his lap.
